LSU fined $100K after students storm football field
SHREVEPORT, La. (CNN) – LSU will have to pay a $100,000 fine for letting its football fans storm the field on Saturday.
The SEC announced the fine on Monday, two days after the LSU Tigers upset the Georgia Bulldogs at home.
LSU President F. King Alexander said the university didn’t have much of a choice.
“Letting students onto the field was the best course of action because we had to have a release valve, because we did have students that were getting smothered within a larger group of students,” he said.
LSU’s athletic director, Joe Alleva, said the university agrees that on-field celebrations can be unsafe.
Rep. Garret Graves (R-Baton Rouge) set up a GoFundMe page to help LSU pay the fine.
