Loggers win 2020 season opener over Rivets

The La Crosse Loggers opened their 2020 Northwoods League season with a 1-0 road win over the Rockford Rivets Wednesday night.

Pitching had the upper hand for most of the game, with the two pitching staffs allowing just four combined hits and amassing 18 strikeouts. La Crosse’s four arms on the night–starter Tony Roca and relievers Cooper Bowman, Ethan Bradford and Cam Wynne–combined for a one-hit shutout.

The Loggers had to wait until the ninth inning to score their lone run, courtesy of a JT Thompson RBI double. Wynne then shut the door in the bottom of the frame, with with outfielder Jason Hodges coming up with a diving catch for the final out.

The Loggers take on the Rivets again Thursday at 6:05 p.m.
