Local students explore engineering careers

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A local event has students thinking about their future.

Viterbo University hosted Engineering Exploration Day on Saturday.

Students that participated heard from a panel of experts from area businesses about different types of engineering.

Current Viterbo students set up booths to demonstrate different projects they’ve been working on.

These interactive demonstrations include aquaponics, circuit design, and graphics.

The day was geared toward engaging kids in engineering careers.

“A lot of different people can contribute to the field of engineering. There’s a lot of different roles involved with it. Some of them have more of a management role. Some are more in the trenches doing the technical calculations. So there’s a range of what engineering really means,” said Emily Schiavone, assistant professor of physics and engineering at Viterbo University.

Schiavone says there is a strong need for engineers in our community, which is why it’s important to get students engaged in engineering career options.
