Local students compete in 101 Show Choir Competition

Competition is hosted by Viterbo University

Local show choirs are starting their new year with a competition.

Viterbo University hosted its 12 annual 101 show choir competition on Saturday. About 13 different choirs competed all day Saturday, hoping to be crowned the winner.

It’s one of the first competitions of the year which one organizer said gets the groups off to a good start for the rest of the year.

“It’s a really good chance for the choirs to compete early on and get critiques. We do video, audio and written critiques for them so they can get a lot of great feedback early in the season before they start traveling around for other competition,” said Jen Roberdeau, director of audience services at Viterbo.

Those involved in show choir say it’s fun to compete at different events.

“I like show choir because of the atmosphere at the competitions, everyone is friendly and then performing is really fun too,” said Joshua Gruen, a senior at Logan High School.

“It’s a little intimidating because it’s a big space that we are going to have to be singing in, but I am exciting and I think it will be fun,” said Lucy Wiggert, a senior at Logan High School.

The show choir season usually goes until April.
