Local sea cadet receives highest rank for commitment to service, community

WEST SALEM, Wis. (WKBT) – One young man is being honored for his commitment to service.

Joel Restel earned the highest rank in the Sea Cadet Program on Saturday.

Now he wears the title of Chief Petty Officer.

He’s received this award for his growth in the program, leadership skills, and dedication to the community.

He says today marks an important milestone in his life.

“This is a really important day for me. I would roughly equate it to becoming an Eagle Scout. So it’s a pretty big deal,” Restel said

He’s not planning on going into the military, but his time as a Sea Cadet has prepared him for his future.

Restel says he’s thinking about a career in architecture or business.
