Local Rotary Clubs team up to fill backpacks with school supplies for kids
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Two area Rotary Clubs are teaming up to make sure kids have all the supplies they need before heading back to school.
Valley View Rotary and Rotary After Hours have partnered to collect school supplies and provide free backpacks for local families who need extra support.
It’s in response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has left many families struggling financially because of lay-offs.
Volunteers are filling 150 backpacks with essential school supplies: folders, notebooks, crayons, mini hand sanitizers, pencils, pens, highlighters, and pencil cases.
One Rotarian says this is one way to add a little normalcy for kids as they adjust to an uncertain school year.
“Even if they aren’t going back to school right away, they need something new to get them excited about the new school year and a place to keep the things they need,” said Stephanie Fraase, Valley View Rotary
These backpacks will be going to third, fourth, and fifth graders at Northside Elementary.
The clubs plan on giving out backpacks again soon.
