Local pharmacist says there’s not coronavirus-related drug shortages in our area
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – There’s a shortage of at least one drug since the coronavirus outbreak started.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says it’s because that specific drug uses raw components that are made in China.
The FDA hasn’t named the drug, what it’s used for, or the manufacturer.
But one local pharmacist says it’s not uncommon to see shortages like these.
“Pharmacies are so accustomed to this. We’re really proactive in monitoring for these shortages, and then taking the necessary steps to make sure we have adequate inventory levels and that we don’t run into supply issues,” said Gretchen Kunze, Lead Pharmacist at Gundersen Health System.
Kunze says she hasn’t seen any coronavirus-related shortages yet, but they are prepared if it happens.
