Local organizations, businesses, making sure kids get nutritious meals

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Hundreds of kids in our area rely on school breakfasts and lunches each day.

With schools closed, there is concern that some will go hungry.

But local organizations are making sure that doesn’t happen.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse is partnering with the Waterfront Restaurant to deliver evening meals to kids in need.

Monday through Friday, 250 nutritious, well-rounded meals will be distributed throughout the community.

On Saturdays, kids will receive two meals.

Organizers say their services won’t stop here.

“We’re just getting started. The need is going to continue to be there for our kids, so we’re going to revisit every single day: what do we need to do today,” said Jake Erickson, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse.

Starting next week, 300 meals will be delivered daily.

Other supporters of the program include “BGC Supper Club” from the La Crosse Area Emergency Response Fund, a coalition of La Crosse Community Foundation, Great Rivers United Way, and generous businesses and individuals.

The club is also offering virtual programming to give kids fun activities at home.
