Local organization donates hundreds of blankets to children in need

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – People are “Creating Comfort in the Coulee Region.”

Blankets of Kindness is a program that makes blankets for kids who are seriously ill, traumatized, or overcoming tragedy.

On Saturday volunteers made hundreds of them to distribute locally.

There were different work stations for making quilts, tie blankets, and more.

Plus, people could write special messages to sew into them.

It’s a unique way to give a child a sense of warmth and security.

“A blanket is more than just a covering or to stay warm. For a kid, it becomes a best friend. It’s like Lioness with his blanket. It becomes that entity to a child,” said Sara Wrobel, Blankets of Kindness committee member.

The program is on its fourth year.

The first year, volunteers made just over 100 blankets.

But this year more than 200 blankets will be given to area kids.
