Local group takes legal action against rail permit
Residents challenge Wisconsin's DNR's decision to grant BNSF permit
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A group of area residents is taking legal action against BNSF’s rail expansion permit.
They’re challenging the Wisconsin’s DNR’s decision to issue the wetland fill and bridge permit to the rail company.
It’s part of a project to add a second railway which will go through La Crosse’s marsh.
They say the DNR’s environmental analysis of the project didn’t comply with the law and failed to disclose potential, environmental impacts that could come from the rail expansion. They’re now asking the court to reverse the permit they granted to BNSF and prepare an analysis that complies with Wisconsin’s Environmental Policy Act.
