Local foundation hosts free ice fishing tournament for kids

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) The cold weather isn’t stopping families from having some winter fun.

Kicking Bear Foundation hosted a free ice fishing tournament for families on Saturday.

Ice fishing experts showed kiddos tricks of the trade, but activities didn’t stop there.

Kids hitched rides on sleighs traveling across the Lake Onalaska.

Plus, a warming tent with endless hot chocolate was a perfect way to take a break from the cold.

There were even prizes for catching fish, including a family fishing trip and new bow and arrow.

One organizer says the memories made today will last a lifetime.

“Well I’ll tell you what, one kid just a few minutes ago just caught their first fish, the hooting and hollering not only with that kid but everyone around them, man they’re having fun. And I’ll tell you, that’s something you don’t forget,” said Ray Howell of the Kicking Bear Foundation.

The Kicking Bear Foundation holds family and youth events throughout the year.
