WAFER food pantry hosts distribution event to help families in need

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – WAFER’s ‘Food Fair’ had a special surprise in store.

The distribution event happened this morning in La Crosse and West Salem.

Along with food packages, organizers and volunteers are giving away four pallets of new toys.

During the event, a food-filled semi-truck helped serve more than 400 families in need.

People didn’t even have to get out of their cars, because volunteers placed the boxes of food directly in them.

“So, when you get a 1 you get 1 of each, when you get a 2 you get two of each, and if you get a three it’s three of each so it’s like every single number,” said volunteer, Jovie Levendoski.

WAFER food pantry wasn’t the only organization involved.

It teamed up with International Anti-Hunger Relief and Channel One Regional Food Bank to make the event possible.
