Local firefighters: help keep the wreath green

Part of collaboration to remind people about fire safety

Area fire departments are hoping you help them keep the wreath green this holiday season.

It’s part of a collaboration between surrounding fire departments to remind people about fire safety.

Each fire department has a wreath with green Christmas lights on it.

Whenever there’s a structure fire in the month of December, the departments replace a blub on the wreath with a red one.

“During this time of the year, usually fires are a little bit elevated because of the holidays and people cooking more and things like that so the goal is to make people aware of fire safety,” said La Crescent Fire Chief John Meyer.

La Crosse, Onalaska, Campbell and La Crescent Fire Departments are all trying to keep their wreaths green.
