Local college students experience what it’s like to be homeless in the winter
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Not everyone in our community has a warm place to sleep tonight.
One group of students are experiencing it for themselves.
The Homelessness class at Viterbo University slept outside on Thursday night.
It’s part of the Servant Leadership program’s A Night in the Cold Homelessness Vigil.
The goal is to raise awareness about homelessness in our community and develop a deeper sense of compassion for those who are less fortunate.
One student says going through this activity changes how she views homelessness.
“We are doing this activity just once a year, but they go through this every day. It’s really hard, and without experience, you won’t be able to feel it,” said Salma Muslim, a junior at Viterbo.
This is the 33rd annual Night Out in the Cold.
