Local church hosts third-annual Mediterranean Festival

A local church is cooking up some delicious meals for a good cause.

For the 43rd year, the St. Elias Orthodox Church in La Crosse hosted its Mediterranean Festival.

The event included ethnic dishes such as falafel and lamb.

Ten percent of the money raised from the event go to support a charity.

Richard E. Markos, church historian, said the event is a good way to bring peace to the area.

“It shows appreciation of the different contributions that people from all over this world make. It Manifested itself right here in La Crosse Wisconsin and the church is a reflection of how people can get a long coming from different ethnic group, coming from different orientations and I think that’s our contribution,” Markos said.

Around 1,000 people were served at the festival Sunday.
