Local Christians mark Good Friday with ‘Stations of the Cross’ spiritual event
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Christians around the world, including right here at home, are marking Good Friday.
The Franciscan Spirituality Center in La Crosse hosted its annual “Way of the Cross” prayer service Friday.
It commemorates the walk Jesus made on his way to the place of crucifixion.
Normally, it would involve a 2-mile silent walk from St. Rose Convent through downtown to the river, but this year because of COVID, it took place at the bandshell in Riverside Park.
Organizers say the event is especially important this year.
“It’s really good to gather this way in compassion and solidarity with all the others who are suffering, especially those who are suffering the loss of loved ones and from isolation and just disconnection from other people,” said Franciscan Spirituality Center Director Audrey Lucier.
Local leaders shared prayers and reflections for each of the 10 stations of the cross.
