TOWN OF SHELBY, Wis (WKBT) – Area firefighters were able to get some realistic training Saturday.

The Town of Shelby Fire Department hosted a Live fire training.

The house was donated to the fire department almost nine months ago and has been used for various training purposes.

The training gives fire departments the chance to practice their skills without anyone or anything being in harm’s way.

The live-fire training also gives the opportunity to get some skills that smaller fire departments don’t often get.

“A lot of local smaller fire departments, we don’t have a lot of house fires. And a lot of interior fires, we just don’t get the opportunity to train on it. You can only visualize and verbalize so often, you really got to just go in and start doing the work, and today we were able to do that,” said Town of Shelby Fire Chief Tony Holinka.

Stoddard, Onalaska, La Crosse, West Salem, and Campbell fire departments also participated in the training.
