Limiting screen time for kids despite virtual school

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – It can be hard to gage how much screen time is appropriate for your children with virtual school. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than two hours of screen time for kids. But as we know, school is usually six to eight hours long. Dr. Peters says with the changing school environment, parents are going to have to pivot and make different choices when it comes to screen time.

“So much of a child’s recreation these days is screen driven. We’d love to see more of that recreation actually be physically driven,” said Dr. Charles Peters, Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Mayo Clinic Health System.

Dr. Peters recommends that kids offset that screen time they’re accumulating from school with a couple hours of physical activity every night.
