Lightning starts house fire

West Salem house set on fire during storm Tuesday night

A house in West Salem was set aflame late last night after being struck by lightning.

The West Salem Fire Department said the house on Briarcliffe Court was struck in the front part of its roof during a storm late Tuesday night.

West Salem Fire Department responded and called Bangor Fire Department to aid in the dousing of the fire.

The garage and front half of the house were badly burned, but the fire was contained before it could burn the whole house.  The back portion of the house only suffered smoke and water damage.  There were no injuries in the fire.
