Leaf and yard waste collection sweeping area neighborhoods
City crews aim to sweep every neighborhood 4 times before Thanksgiving
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Temperatures in our area are cooling and leaves are beginning to fall.
City crews started collecting leaves earlier this month in La Crosse, but now they’re getting into peak collection season.
Their goal is to sweep through every neighborhood four times before Thanksgiving as long as the weather cooperates.
The city asks that you don’t pile the leaves around trees or poles and say they won’t pick up piles that contain twigs or grass clippings.
Instead of just disposing of the leaves the city will re-purpose them in an eco-friendly way.
“Once we collect them, we pile them up and we just keep rotating them and they turn into compost, which we screen and then give out to residents in the spring,” says Recycling Coordinator Brandon Shea.
You can see when crews will be collecting in your neighborhood next by going to the city’s website www.cityoflacrosse.org.
