Late fee will bite owners of unlicensed dogs in La Crosse County on Friday

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Owners of unlicensed dogs in La Crosse County have just a day left to license them or feel the bite of a late fee.

Dog licenses expired Dec. 31, but La Crosse County doesn’t charge a late fee until April 1.

That’s this Friday.

If you live in the city of La Crosse, you can register through an online portal.

Those living in towns or municipalities should go to their respective treasurers.

“We’re coming up on that deadline,” said La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer. “Tomorrow, Thursday the 31st of March, is the last day you can license your dog with the municipal treasurer. After that, you’ll have to come to the county clerk’s office, and there will be an additional $25 late fee for licensing your dog,”

Without the $25 late fee, a license will cost between $12 and $14 for spayed and neutered dogs and between $23 and $24 for those that are not fixed.
