Large barn fire kills close to 4,000 hogs in Buffalo County

A large hog barn fire Wednesday morning in Buffalo County killed close to 4,000 swine.

According to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, the fire call came in around 5:40 a.m. on March 13 reporting a fire at Holden Farms, W20 Gonty Road, east of Naples.

A portion of the barn collapsed prior to the fire starting, authorities said.

Fire crews from Buffalo, Trempealeau, Eau Claire, Pepin and Dunn Counties battled the fire for several hours.

The Buffalo County Highway Department, Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office and Unser Excavating also assisted at the scene.
