La Crosse’s first ultra marathon takes to the bluffs
More than 230 runners showed up for the first-time event
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A new marathon event in our area may not be for the light hearted.
The Hixon 50k is the first ultra marathon in our area, totaling about 31 miles.
More than 230 runners showed up for the first-time event, coming from as far as Colorado.
“There’s such a great trail system here in La Crosse, it’s just sad how many people don’t know about it. So, to see this outcome, this many people coming out to see the race, it’s truly a good thing for this city, just all that advertising and people are enjoying the trail. I mean, you see them, there’s so many and they’re having fun,” said Hixon 50k Co Race Director Jake Hegge.
For those that weren’t quite up to the full 50k distance a 25k route was also available.
