LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – A young La Crosse celebrity is teaming up with Hillshire Farm SNACKED! to give kids the tools they need to make a change in their communities.
Jonah Larson is helping promote Allowance Grants.
Kids in 4th-6th grades can apply for grants to support their community or school projects.
There are 38 $500 grants and three $2,000 grants up for grabs.
Larson has been using his success as a popular crochet prodigy to do charity work in Ethiopia, in the village where he was born.
Through fundraising, Larson has built a library and a science lab for students in the village so far and is now raising funds to get bathrooms for students.
According to Larson, there are 2,000 students at the school all using one run-down outhouse.
Jonah says he wants to help get the word out about the Allowance Grant program to help other kids do great things.
“Other kids can see it because I have a large following of kids on my Instagram who love the items I make, and I want them to be able to share their ideas with the world and help others as well,” said Larson.
If you have kids with big ideas for community service, you can find more information about the grants and the application here.
