La Crosse YMCA set to provide summer meals to kids
Program available thanks to partners
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse YMCA is making sure the children in our community have access to food this summer.
Thanks to partners like the School District of La Crosse and the Walmart Foundation, the La Crosse Y is ensuring that kids have the best summer ever while staying healthy and nourished. The Y’s Summer Food Program will serve more than 5 million meals and snacks to more than 250,000 kids and teens across the country this summer, including about 1,000 kids here in La Crosse.
While other summer food programs exist, coordinators say the Y is unique because it offers summer fun and exercise as well.
“It’s really important for kids to have good meals and healthy food options as well as being able to give them opportunities to be engaged in other programs and activities at the same time,” said La Crosse YMCA Teen and Youth Services Director Lisa Luckey.
During the school year, the YMCA will continue to serve healthy meals and snacks with its afterschool program.
