La Crosse YMCA hosts 23rd annual Maple Leaf Walk Run

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The Maple Leaf celebrations wouldn’t be the same without the annual YMCA Walk Run on Saturday morning.

It is the 23rd year of the event, and community members are “running forward and giving back” to health and wellness.

Race winners earned new prizes this year, including ceramic cups from Compass Ceramics.

The event is a special part of the Oktoberfest fun, but it is also an important fundraiser for La Crosse’s YMCA.

Proceeds go to year-round programs at the La Crosse YMCA.

“We’re just thankful to all of our sponsors who helped us put this event on and make it another great year,” said K.J. Newkirk, the donor experience director.

The event included a half marathon, 5 mile and a 5-K walk/run.

The races started bright and early at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday.
