La Crosse warming centers need your help as they expect increased visits this frigid weekend
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — With the dangerously cold temperatures, local nonprofits are trying to help those who don’t have a place to stay.
The Catholic Charities’ Warming Center wants to ensure everyone has a warm place to stay, but since their attendance will likely be over its regular capacity the organization is also in need of more overnight volunteers to handle the additional demand.
The Salvation Army of La Crosse is also expecting more people through the weekend and is in need of more volunteers as well.
“If you’re able to volunteer, please contact either the Salvation Army or Catholic Charities and we’ll make sure there’s a volunteer opportunity for you,” said Catholic Charities Director of Marketing Karen Becker.
You can help out by calling (608) 519-8020 or (608) 782-6126, or going to the Catholic Charities’ Warming Center website.
The La Crosse Police Department is planning to open its own emergency warming shelter Friday.
