La Crosse summer school students perform ‘The Wizard of Oz’

There’s no place like home for area students hitting the big stage this summer.

La Crosse summer school students put on “The Wizard of Oz” Thursday morning at Lincoln Middle School.

The performance isn’t your usual take on the Hollywood classic. To give more kids a chance to take part, the students took turns playing each role.

Cast members say after three weeks of practice, their hard work is paying off.

“First of all, we read through the script, then we auditioned, then we all got our roles. We would read through our script as our characters, and then we would start adding props, then we would start adding the actions,” said Nora Erickson, who played Dorothy.

The students had their hands in every part of the production from making costumes to designing the set.
