La Crosse students group up to improve our community

La Crosse students are learning what it means to serve the community with some help from local college students.

Students from Viterbo, 7 Rivers High School, and the La Crosse Design Institute are partnering for the ‘Building Ecosystems for the Common Good’ program. Each group thinks of a community service-based project to improve La Crosse during the Spring semester.

In Tuesday’s meeting, student groups met with community partners to find out how to best create some of their ideas.

“I think they’re really inspired by what we want to do. I think they think it’s a great idea. They’re a little timid at first, which is totally what we expected. They’re definitely warming up. They have great ideas,” said Viterbo University Senior Nate Hottmann.

The program includes projects like raising awareness for animal pet adoptions and fundraising for local cancer treatment efforts.
