La Crosse students get a taste of medical field during ‘Wisconsin Science Festival’ visit from local health experts

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – It’s Wisconsin Science Festival Week.

Kids at Northside Elementary School got a taste of the medical field.

Doctors, nurses, and other staff from Gundersen Health System taught students about germs, vaccines, and anatomy.

Kids also got to go inside an ambulance and check out the St. Clare mobile clinic.

Dr. Robyn Borge, the Chief of Medical/Clinical Staff at Gundersen Health System, hopes these experiences stick with the students.

“We’re providing education on healthy eating, healthy living, good hand washing, even a little gross anatomy,” said Dr. Borge. “We hope to maybe inspire some of our young kids to consider fields of medicine down the road.”

The group will be traveling to a few other schools during Wisconsin Science Fest Week.
