SOUP is back! Crowdfunding event returns to La Crosse after two years off

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — After two years off, an event that crowdfunds creative projects aiming to make a positive community impact returns at the end of the month.

La Crosse SOUP will once again take place behind the Root Note in downtown La Crosse July 26. Each attendee receives a cup of soup and a vote, for a suggested donation of $5. Four different groups will have four minutes each to pitch an idea they think would make a positive impact in the La Crosse community. The audience can ask up to four questions from each presenter. After hearing all four pitches, the audience votes and the winners walk away with the money raised to carry out their project.

The upcoming La Crosse SOUP will feature the following pitches:

  • Creating a monthly meeting for moms to make connections and offer support for each other
  • A safe space where survivors of domestic abuse and human trafficking can have branding tattoos removed
  • Provide crafting and hygiene supplies for monthly meetings of a group that empowers young female students
  • Additional support for one of our area’s premier adventure film festivals.

Students from La Crosse Polytechnic School will run a bake sale, the proceeds from which will go to the winning pitch. The events starts at 5 p.m. Pitches will be presented at 6 p.m. with the winner chosen at 7 p.m. Find more information at La Crosse SOUP’s website.
