La Crosse schools’ Project Aware team to sponsor parenting class based on love, logic
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The La Crosse School District’s Project Aware team will sponsor a free, six-session virtual parenting program featuring stories, laughs and skill-building knowledge.
Titled “Parenting the Love and Logic Way,” the program is in partnership with La Crosse parenting professor Chris Peterson. It is designed to give families practical tools to help parents and guardians raise children to become responsible and successful adults.
The virtual sessions will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31, and Feb. 7 and 14. A Zoom link and workbook will be sent to participating families.
The program is the first in Project Aware’s Positive Foundations series offering free educational opportunities for parents and guardians. The Project Aware team aims to foster behavioral and mental health for youths by promoting understanding among students, training school staff and connecting families with community resources.
Project Aware is paying for the series, so it is free to families. The community-centered program is intended to help families build skills, nurture relationships and expand knowledge in the following areas:
• Avoiding unwinnable power struggles and arguments
• Staying calm when children do upsetting things
• Setting limits that you can enforce
• Warding off enabling and begin empowering instead
• Helping children learn from their mistakes
• Raising children who are family members not dictators.
Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. Interested parents and guardians can register at The Parenting Professor’s website.
