La Crosse school officials prepare for Summer Food Service Program
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The school year may be coming to an end, but the meal needs for many students don’t.
That’s why the School District of La Crosse is getting ready for the Summer Food Service Program, which provides meals to kids free of charge during the summer months.
The district will have 9 summer food service sites this year, making sure students who would normally rely on free or reduced price lunches during the year don’t go hungry during summer break.
“It’s such a necessary program because we really worry about kids when school isn’t in session, how are they getting proper nutrition?” said nutrition supervisor Lyn Halvorson.
