La Crosse Public Education Foundation celebrates area educators
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse Public Education Foundation celebrated teachers in our area Monday.
The organization’s annual Grant Award Ceremony recognized about 80 educators that received funding in 2020.
Not every grant goes toward school supplies or new programs though.
Some go toward small ideas that capture a bigger picture.
Like one grant awarded to Northside Elementary school.
The school is using its grant money to hire a professional photographer and print photos of the students to hang throughout the halls.
Plus, families that can’t afford the cost of family portraits are able to get them done through the school.
The school’s community coordinator said unique things like this wouldn’t be possible without the grant.
“This allows us to dream a little bit outside of what the typical scope of our work would be – and just how important it is for families to capture photographs and for children to see images of themselves,” said Beth Hartung, Community School Coordinator.
The La Crosse Public Education Foundation awarded $92,000 in grants this past year.
