La Crosse priest charged with sexual assault headed to trial
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — A La Crosse priest charged with fourth degree sexual assault is headed to trial.
Jury selection is set for mid-April of next year for Monsignor Bernard McGarty with the Diocese of La Crosse.
The trial is scheduled to begin April 17th.
McGarty did not appear in court Tuesday.
He stood mute back at a hearing earlier this year and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
According to the criminal complaint, a woman accused McGarty of offering her money for sex, trying to kiss her and taking her hand and putting it on his genitals outside the La Crosse Public Library.
