La Crosse prepares to finance La Crosse Center

After years of preparation, the budget for the renovations to the La Crosse Center has been settled at $42 million.

With the budget set, Mayor Kabat looks for methods to fund the renovations.

“Our plan includes ticket surcharges, room tax, and reaching out to local communities,” explained Kabat.

Mayor Kabat hopes a potential increase in room tax would take advantage of new visitors to the renovated La Crosse center, which would have the capacity to host bigger shows.

On Tuesday, Kabat reached out to the Onalaska to see if neighboring towns would be able to contribute financially.

“While most of the financial benefit (of a renovated La Crosse Center) would be in the city, some of that does spread out to neighboring cities.”

The City will owe $35 million of the $42 million budget, with money reserves and funding from the State of Wisconsin.
