La Crosse Police keeping extra eye out for distracted drivers
LA CROSSE. Wis. (WKBT) — La Crosse police are reminding people to keep their eyes on the road.
The department was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Wisconsin DOT to watch out for distracted drivers. They’re stepping up enforcement with extra patrols on select days through the end of April.
The goal is to reduce traffic related accidents while raising awareness of the dangers of not paying attention to the road.
“A lot of the accidents we see were involved because people weren’t paying attention to what they’re doing, so we just need everybody on the road way to pay attention to what they’re doing, to watch ahead of them and make sure they keep their eyes and ears out and concentrate on their driving,” said La Crosse Police Lt. Pat Hogan.
Officers will also be out in local schools educating high school students on the dangers of distracted driving.
