La Crosse Police Department prepares for Oktoberfest celebrations, despite it being canceled
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Over this ‘No-toberfest’ weekend you won’t see outside law enforcement agencies keeping an eye on the community, but the La Crosse Police Department will have extra officers on duty.
PD officials say they don’t know what to expect, but they know plenty of people will still get into the festing spirit and they want to be prepared.
Because COVID-19 cases in La Crosse are continuing to rise, they are urging people to skip the bars.
“We’re really hoping not to see the crowds and the gatherings we have in the past, just simply based on the COVID issues we’re facing in our community,” Captain Jason Melby said.
The PD is also urging people to not host large parties.
If you do go out and about Melby asks that you wear a mask, socially distance, and make responsible choices.
