La Crosse Pediatrician says anxiety and depression rates reported among adolescents are worsening

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- In the wake of the pandemic, anxiety and depression rates worsened among adolescents. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is recommending kids, between the ages of eight and 18, be routinely screened for anxiety.

Mayo Clinic pediatrician, Dr. Marcie Billings said encouraging children to be active participants at home is helpful to their well-being.

“Getting your children to start helping others. Again, really build that resiliency. Encouraging them to help around the house; to help out with things at school if they see there are opportunities to do that,” Billings said.

May is Mental Health Awareness month. Anyone with questions or those who want more resources should contact their local pediatrician or dial 211.
