La Crosse Parks Department warns of spring closures

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The La Crosse Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department on Monday warned users that the road to Hixon Forest’s main trailhead will be closed starting Tuesday until further notice and that the trails themselves will be closed periodically due to annual spring thaw conditions.

The road and trails close each year due to the spring freeze/thaw cycle, which leaves the trails vulnerable to damage. The trails turn to mud during the warm days, then freeze overnight, contributing to erosion and rough, bumpy trails that can be difficult and expensive to repair.

If your foot or tire leaves a mark on the trail, the trail is closed.
