La Crosse organizations promote mental health in workplaces during ‘World Mental Health Day’
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Tuesday is ‘World Mental Health Day’ and local groups are raising awareness of mental health in the workplace.
‘Better Together’ and ‘Campaign to Change Direction,’ two La Crosse organizations aiming to change the culture behind mental health, partnered to help create positive workplaces in our area. The pair worked with Riverside Corporate Wellness of La Crosse and other local organizations to create a mental wellness checklist for workplaces, employers, and employees.
“People that are happy are going to be more productive, and when you wake up you want to have a great day. I don’t know people that wake up and go, ‘Hey, I want to have a bad day.’ So, this is about have a great day not just outside of work but also inside of work,” said Change Direction Committee Member Sam Van Riper.
The Workplace Mental Wellness checklist includes five item:
Take care of yourself by eating healthy, sleeping and getting exercise
Check in with coworkers and friends
Engage in and maintain healthy relationships
Relax and take breaks when you can
Be aware of signs of distress from others in your life
If you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness, you can find available resources sorted by county on the Mental Health of America website.
