La Crosse MTU to roll out green electric buses next week
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — You can’t miss the La Crosse Municipal Transit Utility’s newest buses — and that’s the point.
These bright green electric buses will hit the streets on June 19.
The city and Excel Energy have been working on adding electric buses to the MTU fleet for five years. Both groups are excited to get them on the road.
Some riders have already taken them for a spin.
“When you get on an electric bus, you notice how different it is. It’s quieter, it’s like you’re floating. There’s a normal bus sounds with the windows shaking a little bit and all that, but there’s no engine sound. So, it’s really really quiet. It makes for a much much better experience,” said Mayor Mitch Reynolds.
The electric buses are expected to run for a full day on one charge.
They will reduce emission levels within the city and cost less to maintain than a traditional bus, MTU officials say.
MTU plans to expand its electric fleet in the future.
