La Crosse mayor proclaims May 13th ‘Thank a Teacher’ Day
Mayor Tim Kabat annoucnes 'Thank a Teacher in La Crosse Public schools Day'
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — The City of La Crosse is honoring public school teachers this week.
Mayor Tim Kabat visited Logan High School in La Crosse Monday, making a proclamation that Wednesday, May 13th will be “Thank a Teacher in La Crosse Public Schools Day.”
The La Crosse Public Education Foundation is organizing the district-wide event. Foundation Executive Director David Stoeffler said they wanted to do something at the end of the school year to honor the teachers after a year of hard work.
“We’d like to do it every day, but at least in this case we’re able to sort of single out one day late in the school year where we can deliver some treats and show them our appreciation,” said Stoeffler.
Teachers at Logan High School sidy the recognition is nice, but isn’t why they get into the profession.
“You don’t become a teacher for the finances or whatever, you do it because it’s fun. You come here because of students. They’re wonderful,” said Logan High School science teacher Jim Konichek.
Konichek said he enjoys coming to work every day because of the atmosphere in the La Crosse school district.
“We have a great relationship in this town with the kids, the administration. It’s just a fun place to come to work,” said Konichek.
Volunteers will deliver muffins, donuts and fresh fruit to public school staff on Wednesday as part of “Thank a Teacher Day.”
You’re encouraged to get involved that by thanking your favorite teacher or using the hashtag “#ThankATeacher” on social media.
