La Crosse leaders ask folks to ‘Pledge to Shop Local’
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Community leaders are asking those who go holiday shopping this season to support small, local businesses.
It’s an effort they’re calling “Pledge to Shop Local.”
Those who take the pledge promise to spend at least 75 percent of their holiday season shopping at local businesses.
You would also commit to shop local first before buying at a retail chain or online.
The latest data from Yelp shows more than 163,000 nationally are closed due to problems with the pandemic.
That’s why community leaders are asking you to do your part.
“I think what we’re trying to really spread is a message of positivity around this, that small business owners are really taking great steps to keep people safe, and to really welcome people into their businesses in safe and efficient ways,” La Crosse County community development specialist Brian Fukuda said.
