La Crosse homicide suspect captured in Peoria County

La Crosse Police still searching for man accused of north side homicide

LA CROSSE. Wis. (WKBT) – A La Crosse homicide suspect was taken into custody in Peoria County, Illinois Friday morning.

The La Crosse Police Department was contacted by the US Marshals Service in Peoria January 10 informing them that Shavonte T. Thompson was in custody. The Marshal Service along with the Peoria Police Department were conducting surveillance on a home due to information they received that Thompson may be there. Thompson was observed entering the residence. As authorities attempted to make contact with Thompson, he tried to escape out of a window. The suspect was taken into custody and is now being held at the Peoria County Jail.

Shavonte T. Thompson, 27, of La Crosse is accused of shooting Javier R. Hall on La Crosse’s north side.  Law enforcement encourages community members to use caution and contact your local police department with any information.

On November 2 at approximately 9:40 p.m. La Crosse Police were called to the 900 block of Copeland Avenue for a report of a shooting. Police found Javier R. Hall (Ayers), 18, in an alley suffering from a gunshot wound. Hall was taken to a local hospital where he later died, according to La Crosse Police.

Thompson has a warrant for a separate shooting incident in La Crosse in March of 2019.
