La Crosse hosts Deke Slayton Airfest for first time in seven years

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – It’s been seven years since the Deke Slayton Airfest took place in La Crosse, but the wait is over.

Airfest started Saturday at the La Crosse Regional Airport where people could pull right up in their cars to watch the show.

The board of directors, which has been working on getting Airfest back to La Crosse every year, finally booked the Blue Angels for this year.

It’s rare that these planes put on a show in La Crosse, and Deke Slayton Airfest media director Dave Larsen said he’s happy they can bring in good entertainment to the area.

“Just bringing a great entertainment value to the people of La Crosse. We have all kinds of festivals and this is very unique to bring this kind of aircraft and this kind of entertainment in the sky to the people of La Crosse,” Larsen said.

This was the first year the fest introduced drive-in parking, with which people were able to set up lawn chairs in their own parking pods to watch the show.
