La Crosse Health Science Academy students present their learning

102 students present end-of-the-year projects

Students in a specialized La Crosse academy are showing off their new medical knowledge Tuesday.

Graduating and returning students of La Crosse’s Health Science Academy are presenting their experiences from this school year. Local high school Juniors and Seniors in the Academy learn about careers in the medical field through hands-on classes and experiments.

On Tuesday, 102 students presented their end-of-the-year projects. The academy director says students in the Academy are excited for their future.

“I think excitement is a great word for it. Sometimes our students are graduating from high school thinking, ‘I know I’m going to go on and do something, but I’m not really sure.’ These students are excited because they know what might happen,” said Health Science Academy Director Annette O’Hearn.

This year’s Health Science Academy graduating class comes from seven area high schools, from the La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen and West Salem school districts.

This year marks the Academy’s 8th graduating class.
