La Crosse girl helps raise funds for ‘buddy bench’ at her school
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Kids at one La Crosse school now have a place to meet a new friend thanks to one compassionate little girl.
A number of schools in our area already have ‘buddy benches’ and now Hintgen Elementary has one as well.
A buddy bench is a place where kids can go if they’re feeling sad or lonely, and that way other kids know they need someone to play with.
Hintgen’s bench was installed Thursday and was made possible thanks to fourth grader Brenna Kugler and her teacher.
“I know some people who don’t always have friends to play with and it’s kind of hard for them and I don’t like that so I wanted them to have someone to play with at playground,” said Brenna.
“This is not the first project she’s thought of that needed to be a cause for her to raise money for and she just gets these ideas based on things she hears about and runs with them,” said teacher Beth Gonia.
They were able to collect the money for the bench with a fundraising jar in the classroom and other events like bake sales.
