La Crosse Fire Department responds to fewer structure fires
Officials stress fire prevention
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Every year, some of our local fire departments put a wreath on their fire stations to show the community how many fires they have responded to.
This year, the La Crosse fire department says they responded to fewer structure fires than in previous years and the fire stations show it.
La Crosse, Campbell, La Crescent, and Onalaska fire departments use the annual ‘Keep the Wreath Green’ campaign to remind residents about fire prevention and the dangers of structure fires. Each time the station responds to a structure fire they replace a green bulb on a wreath with a red bulb.
The La Crosse Fire Department says they cannot stress the importance of fire prevention enough.
“Anytime you can bring awareness to an issue I think that people think about it and it’s in their mind when they see that wreath and they recognize that prevention goes a long ways,” said La Crosse Fire Department Division Chief Tom Wallerich.
The ‘Keep the Wreath Green’ Campaign runs from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day.
