La Crosse Fire Department holds second voluntary swearing-in for firefighters of all ranks
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — New and old members of the La Crosse Fire Department were celebrated Friday with one of the department’s first public swearing-ins.
Firefighters of all ranks were able to re-instate their commitment to our community with the day’s voluntary Firefighter’s Oath at City hall. It’s the second swearing-in the department has conducted, after last fall’s ceremony.
The department’s chief says the ceremony gives Fire Department members the chance to celebrate their commitment with family and friends.
“The fire department had never done it other than the Fire Chief, and so I said ‘If you guys want it, we can do it.’ We started chatting about it and last fall we did the first of these 2 ceremonies. Fantastic turnout for both dates, and just very proud that they all did that,” said La Crosse Fire Department Chief Ken Gilliam.
Friday’s ceremony included bag pipe music, an honor guard, and special guest presenters.
